Hello and welcome to Naked News, I_m Victoria Sinclair. We_re back after a short break and based on the e-mails and Social media posts, we_re happy to hear you enjoyed Monday_s classic episode. There_s a lot to get to today so let_s check in with our gorgeous cast of reports to see what they_ve been working on. Alright, lets get things started with the headlines and devastating news out the Philippine capital of Manila. Deadly flooding there has claimed the lives of at least 8 people and brought parts of the bustling city to a standstill. For the latest on the situation there, and the rest of the day_s top stories, we_ll turn things over to Peyton Priestly. Thank you Victoria. Flooding triggered by torrential rains has forced tens of thousands to flee from their homes in the Philippine capital of Manila. The surging waters - more than five feet high in some parts - have also forced the closures of most schools, offices, and the stock exchange. Major roads have also been blocked and electricity has been cut off in many areas as a safety precaution. Officials say that more than fifty percent of Metro Manila is submerged. Rescue workers are working around the clock to try and restore order. New Zealanders were treated to a shocking sight on Tuesday when a massive volcano that had been dormant for more than a century suddenly erupted Rachelle Wilde has been tracking the developments there and joins us now with today_s news bulletin Peyton, the sudden eruption at Mount Tongariro sent an ash cloud nearly 20-thousand feet into the air. Witnesses said it looked like an atomic bomb had been dropped. Flights to New Zealand_s North Island were disrupted and highways were temporarily closed due to poor visibility. The surrounding area has been covered in ash and people are being advised to stay indoors. The volcano hasn_t had any activity for 115 years, and scientists aren_t sure whether the surprising incident was a one-off event or a sign of renewed activity. In business news, British banking giant Standard Chartered has drawn the ire of US financial regulators. SCB is accused of hiding roughly 60-thousand transactions with the Iranian government worth over 250 billion dollars. The bank_s executives are being called to explain the company_s actions before regulators on August fifteenth. According to prosecutors, SCB_s secret transactions left the US financial system vulnerable to terrorists and corrupt regimes, while purposely concealing crucial information from law enforcement. In short Peyton, the bank allegedly acted as a rogue institution. Not only that Rachelle, but I hear officials also claim the bank tried doing business with OTHER sanctioned nations like Libya and Sudan.First Barclays, then HSBC, and now this? It_s getting harder and harder to trust the banks these days. That_s why I keep all my money under my mattress Thanks Rachelle. And that_s your first look at today_s NAKED NEWS Vic, i_ll send it back to you. Thank Peyton, she_ll be back with more of today_s headlines shortly so watch for her.
