Batten down the hatches - the World Meteorological Organization is warning that this year_s El Nino will be one of the WORST on record The weather system is related to warming in the Pacific Ocean, which is now more than 4 degrees Fahrenheit higher than usual. This puts it on track to match or surpass the devastating 1997 to 98 season. El Nino_s far-reaching influence will make heatwaves hotter, raise the risks of flooding, and increase the number of category 4 & 5-level hurricanes. A new survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the number of US smokers has dropped to just 14 point 9 percent. The figures are the lowest since 1997, when nearly a quarter of Americans identified as smokers. Men are more likely than women to light up, while those under the age of 65 reported smoking more than seniors. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the US. And make sure you look up to the skies this week or you_ll miss out on one of the universe_s best light shows The annual Leonid meteor shower is expected to peak Tuesday night, with experts predicting prime viewing time in the early hours of Wednesday between midnight and dawn.
