The cliche of stashing your cash in a Swiss bank account to avoid detection is no more 80 banks in Switzerland have agreed to pay the US government 1 point 3 billion dollars in fines for hiding US funds in offshore accounts. The penalties relate to more than 34 thousand accounts holding upwards of 48 BILLION dollars. As part of the deal the banks will avoid prosecution in exchange for cooperating with any future criminal proceedings against the account holders.
