The 39-year old will serve the prison term as part of an agreement to settle NINE rpg charges against him in various states. The plea deal allows the ex-NFL star to avoid a much more severe punishment including a possible life sentence. Meanwhile a judge in Arizona has formally dismissed a murder case that saw a mother spend 22 years on death row. Debra Milke was convicted in 1990 for hiring two men to kill her young son. But after a fifteen year legal battle the court threw out the decision because prosecutors failed to disclose the shady history of a detective working the case. The now-retired detective had a long history of lying under oath and violating suspects_ rights during police interrogations. After the ruling Milke_s attorney said he was happy the ordeal was finally over and that justice had been done. And Utah Governor Gary Herbert has drawn national attention after signing a bill Monday that makes death by firing squad a legal form of execution. The old-West style method can now be used there in the event that no lethal injection drugs are available. There has been a nationwide shortage of the drugs leaving states to ponder other avenues of executing death row inmates. The drugs have also come under scrutiny for causing bungled executions. Supporters of the Utah bill say a team of trained marksmen could do the job much faster than a lethal dose of poison. Critics call the law barbaric. I_m Peyton Priestly don_t go away.
