It_s another black eye for education in America as 30,000 Chicago teachers have gone on strike. Their union had negotiated with school officials for 10 months, but they weren_t able to come to an agreement. This is Chicago_s first teacher strike in 25 years. As a result, police are beefing up their operations as 400-thousand students have nowhere to go. Some schools and community organizations are opening the doors in order to provide some kind of relief for frazzled parents.Three separate polls after the Democratic National Convention show that President Obama_s popularity has risen slightly since the big event. According to a Rasmussen poll, Obama has a 2 point lead over Mitt Romney n 46 to 44 percent. That same poll had Romney with a 3 point lead just last week. However, experts warn that Obama shouldn_t start doing victory laps just yet. History has shown that post-convention bumps almost always vanish, meaning that this remains anybody_s race. And the Obama campaign got even more positive news. For the first time in months, they_ve managed to raise more money than the Republicans. According to Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, in August they managed to collect 114 million dollars, versus 111 million for the Romney camp. Over a million people donated to the re-election campaign last month alone. In a sign of grass-roots support for the President, 98-percent of those donations were under 250 dollars, with an average of 58 dollars each. We_ll be right back.
