At a pro-Israel conference in Washington DC Monday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the clock is ticking down on halting Iran_s nuclear program. Netanyahu said that he would not let his people quote live in the shadow of annihilation. Netanyahu told the crowd of 13-thousand that his government has waited patiently on alternative measures, and that he was running out of both patience and options.Prior to the conference, Netanyahu met at the White House with US President Barack Obama. Obama is still pressing for a diplomatic resolution with Iran. But he also stressed that the US will always have Israel_s back when it comes to national security.Unfortunately, a confrontation with Iran is far from the only concern for the Obama administration these days. A well-recognized name in American politics called for US intervention in another Middle Eastern hot spot - Syria. For more on this story we_ll turn things over to Rachelle Wilde. RW) Vic, Senator John McCain is calling for a US-led international air strike campaign to protect civilian populations in Syria. Speaking from the floor of the Senate in Washington, McCain said that the situation was particularly bad in the northern part of the war-torn country, and that Syrian rebel forces needed American help to regroup and plan new attacks against the Assad (ah-SAHD) regime.McCain stressed that while the rebels had lost their stand off in the city of Homs (hOmz), there are still many other urban areas that are being contested. He said the time has come for Obama to announce a new policy.In other US news, Attorney General Eric Holder says that the US can lawfully kill terror suspects overseas, and that includes American citizens living abroad who can_t be captured. Holder said that killing a US citizen can be justified if the individual poses an imminent threat of violent attack, evades capture, and carries quote military value. Though he never mentioned any specific names, Holder_s legal defense argument was widely interpreted to refer to the drone-strike killing of American-born Al-Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki (AN-war al-OW-la-kee). These comments have been a long time coming Vic.VS) His death came five months ago, and civil libertarians have been critical of the President_s administration ever since. RW) That_s right. It_s all about the Constitution_s due process protections Vic. But according to Holder, because of the unique circumstances involved, the President doesn_t need to get permission from a federal judge to carry out these kinds of strikes.VS) It definitely sets an interesting precedent, doesn_t it?
