But they did, and they brought some serious thunder down under Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal turned back the clock in Melbourne for a thrilling five-set finish Somehow, the 35-year old Federer managed to outlast his 30-year old rival. Things got strange on match point. Federer_s forehand was ruled out, but he was quick to challenge the call. Federer won his record 18th major championship, becoming the fourth oldest Grand Slam winner EVER Here_s hoping it isn_t the last chapter in their classic rivalry. Now time for some football highlights That_s IF you can call the NFL Pro Bowl football. Okay, so it doesn_t have the greatest reputation with fans, but this year_s game was surprisingly competitive The NFL said aloha to Hawaii and moved this year_s all-star game to Orlando. A sold out crowd of more than 60-thousand cheered on the pros. Since nobody wants to hit or get hurt, the Pro Bowl normally has scores you_d only see in a game of Madden. This year was different though. With just over a minute left, the AFC was winning 20 to 13, but the NFC had the ball and was driving down the field. That_s when THIS happened. A crazy finish to an entertaining game. All in all it was the best Pro Bowl in ages Still, the Super Bowl can_t come soon enoughAmen to that Now let_s switch things up to hockey. The NHL had it_s all-star festivities this weekend too.And I heard they came up with an interesting idea to keep the players motivated: cold hard cashYep, a million dollars was up for grabs The stars came out to play in LA at the 2017 NHL All-Star Game The 3-on-3 tournament came down to the Metropolitan Division against the Pacific Division. Coach Wayne Gretzky must have given the Metro team a great pep talk at intermission, because they came out firing on all cylinders in the second period Cam Atkinson and Wayne Simmonds scored goals just five seconds apart to give them a 4-3 win and a big check for a million bucks It was QUITE the finish at the PGA Farmers Insurance Open Jon Rahm earned his first tour win by closing his final round in style He went for the green in two on the par-5, 18, landing at the top of the green. That left him a 60-foot putt, which he calmly drained for an eagle The amazing putt helped the young Spaniard win the tournament by 3 strokes. To make room for all these plotters, Turkey will release 38-thousand current prisoners - or nearly 20% of its total prison population In the wake of the coup attempt, the state issued a three-month state of emergency granting it extraordinary powers. Since then thousands have been questioned or arrested, and many more have been fired from their jobs. Turkey_s Western allies have expressed concern that the government is using the incident as an opportunity to crack down on dissent.And the Ryan Lochte robbery story has taken a strange twist. On Wednesday, Brazilian authorities pulled American swimmers Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz off their flight to the US. The athletes were part of the group that claimed they were robbed at gunpoint in Rio. However police have concerns about inconsistencies in the stories from the four swimmers. Authorities find it odd that the thieves would have taken the athletes_ money, but not their watches or smartphones. Lochte claimed that a single robber approached with a gun to demand their money, while another swimmer, James Feigen, told police they were surrounded by a group of thieves.

NON-nuclear sanctions preventing trade with US businesses will still remain in place for the time being. The oil slide continues Prices dipped below 28 DOLLARS a barrel after the news of Iran_s sanctions lifting broke. The country is expected to ramp up its oil exports by HALF A MILLION barrels a day, and could even reach TWICE that output before the year is over. While that_s good news for drivers, it_s NOT so great for other oil producers. The global market is already struggling with oversupply and reduced demand. And the rich just keep getting richer A new study from the anti-poverty charity, Oxfam, reports that the richest 1 percent of society now has as much wealth as the rest of the world COMBINED. According to the report, anyone with assets of more than 760 thousand is classified as a 1 percent-er. The 4-set thriller was slowed by rain delays, but in the end, Djokovic once again proved to be too much for Federer, winning 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. The win marks the TENTH Grand Slam title in Novak_s career, and his second US Open trophy. Just like at Wimbledon, the fans in attendance were clearly on Federer_s side. After the match Federer said it was probably the loudest crowd he_s EVER played for.Football is FINALLY back and there was NO shortage of wild action in week 1 of the NFL. Tony Romo rallied the Dallas Cowboys to a heart-stopping win against the hated New York Giants Romo found tight end Jason Witten in the end zone with 7 seconds left for a 27-26 victory. But it wasn_t ALL good news for the Cowboys. They lost star receiver Dez Bryant for 4 to 6 weeks with a broken foot. Meanwhile the league_s two top rookie quarterbacks squared off in Florida, as Marcus Mariota_s Tennessee Titans and Jameis Winston_s Tampa Bay Buccaneers hit the gridiron. Mariota looked SENSATIONAL against the Bucs, tossing FOUR touchdown passes and finishing with a PERFECT quarterback rating as the Titans rolled to a 42-14 win. Winston - the top overall pick in the draft - had a much rougher day at the office. His very first pass was intercepted for a touchdown and he was sacked 4 times. Floyd Mayweather capped off a perfect career Saturday night in Las Vegas Depending on how you see it, Mayweather either put on a brilliant display of boxing, or picked an extremely weak opponent in Andre Berto. In any case, Floyd won nearly every round of the fight to improve to 49 and oh. That matches the all-time record set by legendary heavyweight Rocky Marciano. In the post-match interview Mayweather said his career was officially over, but many believe he_ll stage one more fight and try to get to 50 and oh. Over on the NASCAR track, Matt Kenseth DOMINATED at the Richmond International Raceway. He led 352 of the 400 laps en route to the checkered flag in the Sprint Cup regular-season finale. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano took the second and third spots on the podium. It was Kenseth_s fourth win of the 2015 season, and he_s heading into the Chase for the Sprint Cup playoffs with momentum on his side. NASCAR_s postseason revs up on Sunday in ChicagoAnd we finish with sad news for NBA fans. Basketball icon Moses Malone passed away over the weekend. The 60-year old was a three-time league MVP who made 12 consecutive all-star games during his hall of fame career. Malone played 19 seasons in the NBA and is ranked in the top ten all-time in scoring and rebounds. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement Sunday calling him an NBA legend gone far too soon. The new film, Legend tells the story of the Kray_s climb to the top, their unbreakable bond as brothers, and their eventual downfall.What makes this film worth the price of admission is Tom Hardy_s astonishing dual performances as Ronnie AND Reggie Kray. One is a smooth talking ladies man, while the other is a bisexual schizophrenic. It_s a testament to Tom_s talent that at no point does it feel like the same person is playing both roles.Legend does well as a gangster film, but it_s ultimately about the relationship between Ronnie and Reggie, that really makes this film stand out. It_s in wide release across North America right now.

It_s the first time since the merger that a rookie_s made his first career start in a playoff game Not exactly the formula for a ratings bonanza In other football news, the finalists for the 2017 football Hall of Fame class have been announced Some of the top names include Kurt Warner, Terrell Owens and first-time nominees Jason Taylor and LaDainian Tomlinson. Hard to believe that the team that finished 27th last year is sitting atop the league standings this season. The Blue Jackets are red hot right now, winning their SIXTEENTH game in a row on Tuesday night It_s the second longest winning streak in NHL history Columbus will have a chance to tie the all-time mark held by the 92-93 Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night against Washington. We_re hoping they do it In the NBA, the Lakers haven_t had much clutch shooting lately, but maybe they should look to add some talent from the stands A lucky fan was given the chance to win 95-thousand dollars with a halfcourt shot during LA_s recent game against Memphis.
