Gawker.com practically invented the smart, snarky tone that almost every hip website uses today, Kat. But it looks like the infamous site has uncovered its last piece of juicy gossip. More on that in a sec, but first, it_s been no easy day for Matt Bissonnette. He_s the ex-Navy SEAL who wrote the tell-all about the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden.I can_t say I read it, but I know a lot of people did. It was a bestseller - and the US government wasn_t very happy about it.Not at all They took him to task and it looks like he won_t make a single penny from his story. Here_s what_s going on. Welcome to the newsroom everyone. In 2012, former SEAL Team 6 member Matt Bissonette released the bestseller No Easy Day using the pen name Mark Owen. The firsthand account of the daring raid that killed Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden became an instant bestseller. Thing is, Bissonnette never got clearance from the Pentagon before publishing it He_s now had to forfeit nearly 7 million dollars in book royalties and speaking fees to the government for violating non-disclosure agreements. Bissonette apologized for the book, saying he received poor advice from his lawyer and never intended to endanger any of his former colleagues. With the settlement reached, the government will dismiss other liability claims against him. One of the web_s most infamous websites will soon be no more. Gawker.com will shut down for good this week. The news comes a few days after its parent company, Gawker Media, was bought in a bankruptcy action by Univision for 135 million dollars. The Gawker Media umbrella includes a handful of other popular sites, including Deadspin, Gizmodo, and Jezebel. Those blogs will continue business as usual, but Gawker will be shuttered. Founded 14 years ago by CEO Nick Denton, Gawker became the go-to source for gossip stories on celebs and high-powered business leaders. But its willingness to go after public figures ended up costing Gawker dearly. After losing a 140 million dollar privacy lawsuit to Hulk Hogan, the company was forced to file for bankruptcy. And the battle for one of the world_s biggest media empires is over. Sumner Redstone has been awarded ownership of Viacom, the media company he started that owns MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Pictures, and Nickelodeon to name only a few. Now 93 years old, Redstone and his daughter became embroiled in soap-opera-like fight for control of the 40 billion dollar company against a group of his colleagues at Viacom. They questioned whether he had the mental capacity to lead the business. The legal wrangling took a toll on the company, with Viacom_s earnings dropping 29 percent in the first quarter. With the fight over, Viacom chief executive Philippe Dauman will exit the company, along with a cushy 72 million dollar severance package. Redstone is one of the greatest media moguls we_ve ever seen, Kat, but his health is a major concern. It looks like it won_t be long before his daughter Shari takes the helm.Hey it must be nice. I_d be happy owning one measly TV network, let alone an entire empire of them. In all there are 7 Oscar winners featured in the spread, which was shot by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh. The 44th edition, to be released next year, is truly an international celebration, being shot in Berlin, London, LA, New York, and Le Touquet France. The department of Homeland Security is looking into the attack. So if you were setting up shop in the gambling mecca of North America, what would you call your team.I don_t know, maybe the Las Vegas Gamblers or the Las Vegas Blackjacks.Okay yeah, that_s about along the same lines as what MOST people would say, I personally like the Las Vegas Sinners But the league_s opted for a much safer sounding choice Here_s the story Nat and WELCOME everyone, to my Naked Sports Report The new NHL franchise in Las Vegas will now officially be called, The Vegas Golden Knights. Kinda boring right? But I DO think the logo and team colors are pretty nice. The Golden Knights will be added to the Pacific Division in the Western Conference, and will add players through an expansion draft this summer. The NHL is the first major sports league to drop anchor in Sin City, and they_ll be playing out of a brand new 375 million dollar arena on the strip. The big question now is whether or not people in Nevada are ready to care about hockey. Michael Jordan_s won pretty much every trophy a basketball player CAN win during his career. But on Tuesday he won something arguably even better than his six NBA titles. MJ was at the White House alongside Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres, and other big names to receive the nation_s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Jordan_s probably used to hearing people gush about his amazing career, but President Obama decided to have a little fun at his expense That last line refers to the ever-popular Crying Jordan meme you see everyone online. Which people naturally put ON Jordan_s face on photos of him receiving the medal In the NFL, Tony Romo is all but done in Dallas as quarterback of the Cowboys - but he ISN_T thinking retirement After losing his starting gig to rookie Dak Prescott, Romo says he wants to play again next season, and everyone_s trying to figure out where he might end up. Well according to the rumor mill, Romo has his eye on the Denver Broncos It makes a lot of sense. The Broncos are loaded on defense, but have had a big help wanted sign in the window since Peyton Manning retired. Adding Romo would be a major upgrade. The Cleveland Browns are in the midst of an historic season. They_re oh and 11 and have a REALLY good chance of having a winless season. It_s no surprise fans aren_t thrilled about going to Browns games these days, but ticket prices are dropped to insanely low levels The average NFL ticket usually costs around a hundred dollars, but you can get seats for Cleveland_s December 24th game against San Diego for just SIX BUCKS That should leave fans plenty of beer money to help them forget they were ever there. And here_s some good news for fans of REAL football. And by that I mean soccer. Two-thirds of teams across the UK have actually dropped ticket prices this season The news comes in the wake of the massive 10 billion dollar TV rights deal signed by the English Premier League this season. The average price to an EPL game is less than forty dollars, which is pretty reasonable. He did it in 2004 at the height of his Apprentice fame.Move over Game of Thrones, there could soon be ANOTHER George RR Martin series coming to a cable network near you Cinemax has just ordered a pilot for an adaption of Martin_s novella The Skin Trade. It_s about a young detective investigating a string of mysterious murders in a small town, and spoiler alert, it involves werewolves The Walking Dead has been a ratings powerhouse for YEARS, but is it starting to run out of steam? 14.6 million people tuned in for the season premiere Sunday night. That number might be impressive but it_s the LOWEST draw for a Walking Dead premiere in two years. To be fair though, the show was going head to head with ratings giant, Sunday Night Football, and the lengthy 90 minute runtime is also being blamed for turning some people away. Paul Reubens AKA Pee Wee Herman is heading back to the small screen Reubens is taking a role on the superhero series Gotham, where he_ll be playing the father of infamous villain The Penguin It isn_t totally unfamiliar territory for Reubens. Diehard Batman fans out there will remember he played the exact same role in the 1992 Tim Burton movie, Batman Returns. And we_ll finish up with the TV news that has comedy geeks REALLY excited. Bob Odenkirk and David Cross are teaming up for a new comedy series called With Bob and David, exclusively on Netflix The pair famously created the cult classic sketch series Mr. Show in the 90s, so it_s got a lot of people looking forward to this project.
